Chess Dynamics, a provider of advanced surveillance, fire control, and positioning systems, has appointed Andy Smith as its new Managing Director. According to the company, Smith brings more than 25 years of experience in the defense sector to his new role.

Before joining Chess Dynamics, Smith held senior roles at Leonardo and Marshall Land Systems, working extensively in Electronic Warfare and Surveillance systems for platforms including the Eurofighter Typhoon and various helicopter programs. He also contributed to the Global Combat Air Programme (GCAP), helping to manage collaboration among the UK, Japan, and Italy on governance, intellectual property, and system integration.

Smith explained that he was drawn to Chess Dynamics due to its combination of innovative products and a committed senior leadership team. He highlighted the company’s problem-solving culture, recalling that production line staff described it as, “we don’t have challenges, we only create solutions,” which he said reflects the teamwork and determination within the company.

Looking forward, Smith stated that his initial focus will be on operational delivery, ensuring the company executes effectively on existing orders while growing its people, capabilities, and overall business. He emphasized that maintaining stability and enhancing performance will enable customers to complete their missions more effectively.

Chess Dynamics noted that Smith’s extensive background in engineering, operations, and international defense collaboration will strengthen the company as it continues to expand and deliver advanced solutions for its clients.
