Exosens announced that it has secured a significant contract with Spain’s Ministry of Defense for the supply of 17,000 advanced night vision monoculars, to be delivered between 2025 and 2028. According to Exosens, these devices will be built around its 16 mm 4G image intensifier tubes, integrated into monoculars procured through NVLS (Night Vision Lasers Spain).

This deal marks one of the most substantial procurements by the Spanish Armed Forces in recent years, as part of their renewed effort to modernize night vision capabilities while raising defense spending toward 2 % of GDP. Prior purchases had already established Exosens’ footprint in Spain: previous contracts included supply of AN/PVS-14 monoculars and 16 mm 4G tubes for wide field-of-view binoculars used by the Army and Navy.

The monocular selected by the Spanish Army features a 50° field of view (FoV), an optical performance specification that Exosens says provides up to 60 % more visible terrain compared to devices with a conventional 40° FoV—without increasing weight or size. Exosens asserts this wide-FoV design enhances situational awareness, especially in low-light conditions, making it a compelling option for dismounted soldiers.

Exosens noted that Spain becomes the first nation to adopt this class of devices universally—both monoculars and binoculars—across its forces using 16 mm 4G intensifier tubes. Jorge de la Torre, CEO of NVLS, stated that the contract is a reaffirmation of the quality and innovation behind their technology, and signals ongoing commitment to equipping European armed forces.

The contract is expected to further solidify Exosens’ role as a strategic supplier of night vision systems to NATO countries and defense allies, capitalizing on rising demand in this sector.
