ICEYE, a leading operator of Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) satellite systems, is showcasing its mobile ISR Cell in action during the NATO Tiger Meet 2025 exercise. According to the release, the unit is being deployed in coordination with the Portuguese Air Force’s Centre of Space Operations.
Some 1,700 personnel from twelve nations are participating in the exercise, which focuses on integrated air defense, offensive air combat, attack operations, and support for land and sea forces. The drills are intended to reinforce interoperability among allied militaries under realistic operational constraints.
The ISR Cell is a self-contained, containerized system designed to bring tactical space-based Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) capabilities closer to the front lines. By enabling near-real-time access to satellite data, it aims to compress intelligence cycles and deliver actionable insights directly to decision-makers across command levels. The system is compatible with both sovereign and ICEYE-operated missions.
During the exercise, the ISR Cell will demonstrate how space-derived intelligence can be fused into operational workflows in a multinational setting—turning raw data into timely, mission-relevant knowledge. The press release emphasizes that this approach helps reduce uncertainty in fast-moving scenarios and improve coordination across strategic, operational, and tactical levels.
ICEYE is collaborating in this display with CTI Aeroespacial, the Portuguese Air Force, and Geosat. Their joint efforts are aimed particularly at showcasing enhanced target recognition and change-detection capabilities by bringing space-based data nearer to the theaters of operation.
Jordi Laguarda, ICEYE’s Vice President for Missions Systems in Spain, Portugal & Italy, remarked that participation in the NATO exercise highlights the operational readiness of the ISR Cell to deliver data quickly to decision-makers and fosters mutual learning in leveraging tactical SAR for concrete insights. Meanwhile, General João Cartaxo Alves, Chief of Staff of the Portuguese Air Force, underscored that integrating space assets into high-scale exercises signals that satellite-enabled intelligence is now a practical reality for modern air forces. He further noted the partnership demonstrates recognition of the Portuguese Air Force’s growing role in space operations.
