AeroVironment (AV) has announced a partnership with Arkeus to equip the JUMP 20 uncrewed aerial system with a Hyperspectral Optical Radar (HSOR) payload. According to the company, this addition will give the aircraft advanced real-time wide-area scanning capabilities, making it the first uncrewed platform of its type to carry such technology.
AV explained that the HSOR payload is designed to improve intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance missions by providing detailed environmental analysis and material classification. The system is capable of operating in multiple conditions, including low visibility, to support complex mission requirements.
Trace Stevenson, President of AV’s Autonomous Systems segment, said the integration demonstrates the versatility of the JUMP 20 platform and represents a step forward in enhancing situational awareness for defense users.
The JUMP 20, described by AV as a vertical take-off and landing fixed-wing aircraft, can carry multiple payloads, offering long endurance and flexibility for diverse missions. By adding the HSOR, AV and Arkeus aim to broaden the operational reach of the system across various environments.
Simon Olsen, Chief Executive Officer of Arkeus, commented that the collaboration showcases how advanced sensor technology can be combined with proven platforms to deliver new capabilities to customers with demanding surveillance and reconnaissance needs.
