Mass Virtual has announced that it won the U.S. Navy’s Prize Challenge focused on strengthening emergency response training for shipyard workers. According to the company, the project will apply extended reality (XR) technologies to create immersive, risk-free training environments.

The company explained that the effort is designed to help personnel prepare for a range of emergency situations, including fires, flooding, and hazardous material incidents. By simulating these scenarios, the XR platform aims to improve decision-making under stress and ensure coordinated action among crews.

Mass Virtual noted that its existing XR expertise, already used in other defense and training programs, will be adapted to develop shipyard-specific modules. These simulations are expected to provide more realistic, repeatable training opportunities without interrupting day-to-day operations.

The company also emphasized that the Navy views this project as an opportunity to improve both safety outcomes and operational efficiency, ensuring that shipyard teams are better prepared to act swiftly and effectively during critical events.
