Anduril has announced that its Ghost Shark program has officially advanced from prototype development into a full production fleet, following a three-year collaboration with the Royal Australian Navy and the Defence Science and Technology Group. According to the company’s statement, this milestone marks one of the fastest transitions of a defense platform from concept to operational capability.

The program began in 2022 with the goal of rapidly designing and building an extra-large autonomous underwater vehicle (XL-AUV). Anduril mentioned that three prototypes were delivered ahead of schedule and within budget, a result made possible through close cooperation between government and industry.

Now established as a long-term Program of Record, Ghost Shark is set to be manufactured at scale in Australia. The company emphasized that the platform is designed to operate over long ranges and extended durations, with modular payload options to handle missions such as surveillance, reconnaissance, and strike.

Anduril stated that Ghost Shark will enhance the Royal Australian Navy’s ability to conduct undersea operations, offering a highly flexible and cost-effective capability. The company also highlighted that moving so quickly from concept to fleet demonstrates how new approaches to defense acquisition can deliver advanced technologies much faster than traditional methods.
