Shield AI and HII have announced a strategic partnership to accelerate the development of modular mission autonomy solutions across air, land, surface, and undersea domains, according to the companies.
The collaboration will integrate Shield AI’s Hivemind autonomy software with HII’s Odyssey platform. This combination aims to enable unmanned systems to perform complex missions with greater reliability, including in GPS- and communications-denied environments, while providing flexibility for rapid deployment and scaling.
Eric Chewning, Executive Vice President of Maritime Systems and Corporate Strategy at HII, emphasized that the partnership brings together Shield AI’s advanced autonomy with HII’s extensive experience in maritime platforms and integration. He mentioned that the joint effort will deliver modular, scalable solutions to provide defense forces with operational advantages across multiple domains.
Nathan Michael, Chief Technology Officer at Shield AI, noted that HII’s expertise enhances the partnership’s ability to deliver autonomy safely and efficiently, expanding the impact of Shield AI’s software across diverse platforms.
Hivemind has been designed to allow rapid integration and testing on multiple systems, while Odyssey supports operations for unmanned aerial, surface, and underwater vehicles. The partnership aims to combine these capabilities, enabling forces to field autonomous systems more quickly and effectively.
