Micropol has unveiled OptiScan, a new optical fiber measurement device designed to improve the speed and accuracy of testing tactical fiber networks, according to the company. The device was introduced at the Defence and Security Equipment International (DSEI) exhibition.
The company mentioned that OptiScan allows users to test up to 12 fiber channels at once, completing checks in approximately 30 seconds. This capability is intended to significantly reduce the time required compared with traditional optical power meters.
OptiScan supports a variety of optical connectors, including Micropol’s FALCON™ and PROCON™ expanded beam solutions, as well as HMA, HMC, and others. According to Micropol, the device can measure multiple cable reels in series and verify links while the cables remain on the reels. It is designed to operate in demanding environments, with an operating temperature range from -20°C to +55°C.
The tool offers two measurement modes. In Loop Mode, it provides a simple pass/fail verification, while Link Mode delivers detailed attenuation measurements for each fiber, aiding in troubleshooting and performance checks.
Micropol highlighted that the device is intended for single-person operation and comes in a rugged IP67-rated field kit, including a charger, loopback plug, and cleaning kit. The company noted that the Swedish Armed Forces have already deployed OptiScan to maintain mission-critical networks before, during, and after deployment.
