Helsing and Systematic have announced a strategic partnership aimed at providing European armed forces with sovereign, AI-driven drone swarm capabilities. This collaboration was formalized at the DSEI 2025 defense exhibition in London.

The alliance seeks to integrate Helsing’s AI-powered defense technologies with Systematic’s SitaWare suite of C4ISR systems, which are currently utilized by over 50 nations. This integration will enable seamless deployment of autonomous drone swarms, enhancing reconnaissance and strike operations.

Military experts consider swarming drones—autonomous units that communicate and synchronize during missions—as the next step in battlefield autonomy. The partnership aims to position Europe as a leader in this emerging capability.

The collaboration will facilitate rapid data exchange between drones, such as Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) platforms and the Helsing HX-2 strike drone, which has been deployed in Ukraine. This integration will allow for expedited mission planning, target identification, and airspace deconfliction, thereby improving operational efficiency.

According to Helsing’s Co-founder and Co-CEO, Gundbert Scherf, the partnership combines the strengths of two European technology companies to create an intelligent network that can respond swiftly to evolving threats. He emphasized that success in modern warfare hinges on the ability to connect systems and adapt rapidly.

Systematic’s Chairman and Founder, Michael Holm, highlighted the importance of such partnerships in enhancing Europe’s defense technological and industrial base. He noted that as the role of AI in military operations grows, collaborations like this will help maximize the potential of existing systems and support platforms.

This initiative underscores a commitment to strengthening European sovereignty in defense capabilities, ensuring that allied forces are equipped with advanced, interoperable technologies.
