Helsing has announced the successful completion of sea trials for its AI-powered underwater surveillance systems, Lura and SG-1, at the British Underwater Test & Evaluation Centre (BUTEC) in Scotland. According to the company’s official update, the achievement represents a major step forward in the development of its maritime defense technologies.

The company explained that the trials were the culmination of a three-month development sprint carried out over the summer in collaboration with Blue Ocean MTS and QinetiQ, both part of Helsing’s maritime partnership formed earlier this year. The project began with simulated testing of acoustic performance, followed by live trials in a Scottish loch, before culminating in multi-glider exercises in July at BUTEC.

Helsing stated that the demonstrations validated the performance of Lura, its Acoustic AI platform, which enables autonomous surveillance missions using multiple underwater gliders. The system was shown to operate effectively even in complex and noisy maritime environments, underscoring its potential for real-world naval applications.
