Seaber announced the successful deployment of 10 micro-autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs) off the coast of Saint-Pierre-et-Miquelon. According to Seaber, this operation is part of the SEAMAP project, supported by Bpifrance under the France 2030 initiative, which aims to advance marine biodiversity monitoring.
The deployment was conducted over a two-week period and involved simultaneous operation of all 10 AUVs. Seaber mentioned that the vehicles were equipped with environmental sensors and acoustic positioning systems, enabling autonomous navigation and precise data collection. The fleet collected environmental DNA (eDNA), mapped habitats, and monitored various marine parameters to provide a comprehensive view of the local ecosystems.
Seaber highlighted that this deployment demonstrates the potential of micro-AUV fleets to conduct large-scale and high-resolution monitoring in challenging maritime environments. The company noted that the SEAMAP project exemplifies collaboration between technology developers and research institutions to better understand and preserve marine biodiversity.
