The Aragonese company Mecanus has entered into a significant strategic partnership with the defense industry giant GDELS Santa Bárbara Sistemas. This collaboration, formalized on June 27, is centered on the manufacturing of components for the VCR 8×8 Dragon combat vehicle program, a major initiative for the Spanish Army.

According to a news release from Mecanus, the agreement establishes a framework for the two companies to work together for the next decade. The primary goal of this alliance is to guarantee the production of various sets and components for the Dragon vehicle.

The partnership is expected to generate substantial local employment. The announcement mentioned that the deal will necessitate the creation of approximately 40 to 50 new jobs at the Mecanus facilities located in the PTR López Soriano industrial park in Zaragoza.

This long-term commitment marks a pivotal moment for Mecanus, solidifying its position as a key supplier within the national defense sector. A statement on the company’s website highlighted that this collaboration is the culmination of years of effort and positions Mecanus as a strategic provider for one of the country’s most important defense contractors.
