Oledcomm, a French company specializing in Light Fidelity (LiFi) technology, has been selected to participate in a significant European Union-backed defense initiative with Insta, VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland, DotOcean and Wayren. The project, known as SWARM-C3, aims to revolutionize the command, control, and communication systems for autonomous drone swarms.

According to a news release from Insta, a Finnish technology company also involved in the project, the SWARM-C3 initiative was officially launched in Brussels. The project is funded by the European Defence Fund (EDF) and is scheduled to run for three years. The primary goal, as mentioned in the release, is to develop a new operational concept for managing swarms of unmanned systems across air, land, and sea.

The consortium brings together five companies from four different European nations. Alongside Oledcomm and Insta Advance from Finland, the other partners include the VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland, which is coordinating the project, DotOcean from Belgium, and Wayren from Estonia.

The SWARM-C3 project will focus on creating a framework that allows for seamless cooperation between various autonomous swarms. The development efforts will specifically target swarm command structures, secure and resilient communications, the autonomy of the swarms, and the interaction between human operators and the machines.

The European Defence Fund, which is providing the financial backing, is an EU program designed to enhance the competitiveness and innovation of the European defense industry and research community, the Insta announcement noted. The selection of Oledcomm highlights the growing importance of advanced communication technologies like LiFi in the future of defense systems.
