A social media announcement from Aerospace Lab has unveiled a new partnership with the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) for an innovative Earth observation project named SAMRAI.
According to the company’s post, the mission is designed to demonstrate the capabilities of coordinated flight between two satellites. This advanced formation flying will enable the acquisition of high-resolution imagery. The post mentioned that this technique allows two smaller, agile satellites to function in unison, effectively operating as a single, much larger instrument in orbit.
Aerospace Lab stated that it is responsible for providing the two versatile satellite platforms for the mission. The company expressed its enthusiasm for the collaboration with JAXA, highlighting the opportunity to advance space technology. The SAMRAI mission aims to showcase a novel approach to capturing detailed views of Earth, leveraging the power of satellite agility and synchronized operations.
