The French Navy has successfully completed a significant trial of a new remotely operated munitions system, according to an official press release from FLY-R. The at-sea demonstration, which took place on June 17, 2025, involved the deployment of an unmanned aerial vehicle from the surveillance frigate Floréal.
During the test, the press release mentioned that the frigate’s own crew launched and then remotely piloted a drone developed by FLY-R. The crew successfully guided the craft through a series of intricate flight patterns around a simulated target that was in motion, demonstrating a key new capability.
This trial is a component of a wider initiative spearheaded by the French Navy. According to the announcement, the program is focused on evaluating and integrating new tactical capabilities that rely on the use of remotely operated munitions. The release stated that the French Navy is pursuing this technological innovation to bolster its operational effectiveness and its ability to withstand modern maritime threats, especially given the increasing prevalence of such systems in contemporary theatres of operation.
FLY-R, the developer of the system, expressed its satisfaction with the outcome. The company mentioned that it is proud to contribute its specialized knowledge in fixed-wing drones and custom remotely operated solutions to support the French Navy’s strategic advancements in the naval domain.
