German drone manufacturer Quantum-Systems is set to begin manufacturing its new “Twister” unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) at its facilities within Ukraine, marking a significant expansion of its in-country production capabilities. According to a report from the publication Militarnyi, this development comes just four months after the new drone model was initially introduced.
Oleksandr Berezhnyi, who directs the Ukrainian branch of Quantum-Systems, confirmed the production plans in statements shared with the outlet. Berezhnyi noted that while the Twister drones are already in use in Germany, their deployment in Ukraine will commence following the start of local production, which is slated to begin this month. He also indicated that the new UAV has already garnered interest from the Ukrainian Ground Forces.
The Twister is described as a compact, tactical reconnaissance drone featuring a vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) system, which eliminates the need for launch equipment like catapults. The article mentions that a key feature of the Twister is its ability to act as a signal relay, which can extend the operational range of other UAVs, including the Vector drones already widely used by Ukrainian defense forces.
This move represents a deepening of Quantum-Systems’ investment in Ukraine’s defense industry. The company has previously established facilities for assembling its Vector reconnaissance drones and producing their fuselages locally. The addition of the Twister production line underscores the firm’s commitment to supporting Ukraine’s defense needs with locally manufactured, advanced technology.
