Kraken Technology Group, a UK-based developer of uncrewed surface vessels (USVs), has announced substantial funding commitments from key strategic investors, including the NATO Innovation Fund (NIF) and the UK’s National Security Strategic Investment Fund (NSSIF). This significant boost also includes investment from European venture capital firm Superangel, according to a recent statement from Kraken Technology.

The new capital aims to fuel Kraken’s accelerated growth, supporting advancements in manufacturing, research and development, global expansion, and rapid prototyping capabilities. The convergence of sovereign and intergovernmental funding underscores the increasing demand for adaptable and scalable maritime systems across NATO member states.

Patrick Schneider-Sikorsky, a Partner at the NATO Innovation Fund, emphasized the critical nature of this investment. He stated that “dispersed and uncrewed maritime systems are vital to ensuring naval superiority and securing Allies’ interests in contested waters.” Furthermore, he noted that Kraken’s cutting-edge technology provides a force-multiplying advantage over traditional fleets, enabling sustained presence and swift response without endangering personnel.

Mal Crease, CEO of Kraken Technology Group, remarked on the strong vote of confidence this investment represents for Kraken and its platforms, especially given the origins of the funds. He indicated that the company looks forward to collaborating with the NIF, NSSIF, and other partners as Kraken expands its capabilities and progresses its mission in conjunction with other NATO nations.

A spokesperson for the NSSIF expressed delight in investing in Kraken, characterizing it as a modern, innovative, and high-performing UK maritime enterprise.

Kraken’s product portfolio includes the K3 SCOUT, a high-performance, cost-effective USV with a modular payload bay, which is currently being utilized in operational exercises with NATO. The company’s offerings also encompass the K4 MANTA, designed for uncrewed surface and subsurface operations, and the K5 KRAKEN, engineered as a maritime precision engagement gunship. Each of these modular platforms is designed for versatile deployment across various maritime and coastal operations, enhancing naval capabilities with reduced cost and minimized risk to personnel.

Kraken Technology Group is already fulfilling production orders for NATO countries from its advanced facilities in Hampshire, a testament to the company’s progress and the growing need for autonomous maritime solutions.
