ICEYE, a leader in Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) satellite technology for Earth observation, has announced an agreement to provide satellite data to NATO Allied Command Operations (ACO). This collaboration forms a crucial component of NATO’s Alliance Persistent Surveillance from Space (APSS) initiative, which aims to significantly enhance intelligence sharing across the Alliance.

According to a press release from ICEYE, the agreement will grant ACO access to ICEYE’s advanced SAR satellite capabilities. This will enable NATO to receive high-resolution imagery regardless of weather conditions or time of day, offering persistent monitoring of land, sea, and hard-to-reach locations. The company mentioned that their standard data delivery time is within eight hours of image acquisition, with the potential for delivery in under an hour in certain critical situations.

The APSS initiative, described by NATO as a multi-year, multi-domain, and multinational endeavor, seeks to cultivate a more comprehensive, cross-domain intelligence picture. This enhanced intelligence is vital for informing political decision-making and supporting military operations. The NATO Communications and Information Agency (NCIA) manages the initiative, which aims to optimize the use of both government-owned and commercial space assets, technologies, and data to accelerate the speed of intelligence collection and delivery.

This partnership builds upon an earlier collaboration, as ICEYE previously announced in March 2025 that it would provide satellite data to NATO Headquarters’ Situation Center (SITCEN). The ongoing cooperation, as stated by ICEYE, is designed to strengthen NATO’s overall intelligence framework by enabling faster, data-driven assessments for decision-makers.

A representative from ICEYE expressed enthusiasm about reinforcing their cooperation with NATO and contributing their SAR satellite data to the APSS program. They underscored that ICEYE’s proven satellite technology delivers actionable intelligence for situational awareness and prompt decision-making for NATO and its allied nations. ICEYE operates what is noted as the world’s largest SAR satellite constellation, providing extensive global coverage and frequent revisit times for earth observation.
