Lithuania has chosen Advanced Protection Systems (APS), a Polish defense technology company, to provide advanced anti-drone systems. This acquisition is a strategic move to bolster the security of the nation’s vital energy infrastructure against the growing threat of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).
According to information from the Lithuanian Ministry of National Defence, the contract for these cutting-edge anti-drone solutions is valued at €14 million. The systems are specifically designed to safeguard strategic energy facilities, which are increasingly vulnerable to drone-based attacks. The Minister of National Defence, Laurynas Kasčiūnas, emphasized the critical importance of protecting such key infrastructure, highlighting the ongoing threat posed by drones.
The Ministry mentioned that the selected F-PACE system from APS has demonstrated its effectiveness in real-world scenarios, including its successful use in Ukraine. This system possesses capabilities to detect, track, and neutralize drones of varying sizes, offering a comprehensive defense against aerial threats. Furthermore, the agreement includes a long-term package for maintenance and technical support, ensuring the sustained operational readiness of these crucial defensive assets. This procurement is a key component of Lithuania’s broader strategy to enhance the protection of its critical national infrastructure.
